view of a higher multiplier effect of capital expenditure and in order to provide a boost to capital spending by states, the scheme ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2023-24' was announced in the Union Budget 2023-24
Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee says people of Ektiasal, Chayan Para and Fakdaibari are grappling with an acute drinking water crisis
The testing of water samples under the JJM was carried out by rural women in just nine months - from April 22 to December 22 this year.
“We will not tolerate this. I have instructed my officials to ensure this does not happen. It has also been conveyed to the state government. We have warned the state not to resort to such tactics as the Centre will then find it difficult to extend its cooperation in running such schemes.”
The Prime Minister will also launch the Jal Jeevan Mission App for improving awareness among stakeholders and for greater transparency and accountability of schemes under the Mission, according to PMO note here.
The Jal Jeevan Mission was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi two years ago on August 15 to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every home by 2024.
In 2019-20, the Central government had allocated Rs 1,206 crore to Uttar Pradesh for the implementation of JJM.
At the start of the Mission in 2019, out of a total of 18.93 crore rural households in the country, only 3.23 Crore (17%) had tap water connections.
Now, 7.24 Crore (38%) i.e. more than 1/3rd of rural households are getting potable water through taps.
