Addressing the ‘Kisan Mahachaupal’ at Atal Path in Bhopal, organised by the Congress to protest against the Indo-US trade deal, Gandhi charged, “Narendra Modi sold Indian farmers, the country’s data, and the country’s industry and business to the US.”
Several Congress MLAs wore masks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while others held placards with slogans criticising the agreement. The protest took place during the ongoing Budget Session of the Assembly.
Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has once again slammed the Narendra Modi government over the Indo-US trade deal.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that the government of India is implementing robust safeguards to ensure farmers and their production remains unharmed while finalising the Indo-US trade deal.
He made some remarks that were objected to by the BJP members, who raised slogans seeking an apology from the CM
"The people of the country want to know what is the deep secret behind the compulsion to surrender India's interests," he questioned.
Concluding his three-day visit to Washington, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said the Indo-US trade deal is in the final stages of detailing and will be completed very soon.
The dispute between the two countries dates back to 2019, when the US President had suspended India’s special trade designation after PM Modi had put price caps on medical equipments such as cardiac stents and knee implants. Indian Prime Minister had introduced new data localization requirement and e-commerce restrictions.
