Imran Khan

A fragile bomb for those who matter

Relations between Pakistan and the US have already hit rock-bottom, mainly because of Pakistan’s double game in Afghanistan. Joe Biden hasn’t phoned Khan since he became president of the US. Khan took a seemingly innocuous cable that his ambassador in Washington transmitted to him to make it look like there was an American conspiracy to get rid of him.

Hubris, arrogance marked Imran’s rule

Unable to accept opposition as legitimate activity he and his ministers constantly portrayed its leaders as venal and unpatriotic, painting all of them with the same brush. This translated into a refusal to work with other parliamentary parties. It united a disparate group of opposition parties, with divergent interests, fired by the resolve to oust him by constitutional means.

Imran’s moves put Pakistan in a spot

Imran’s actions marked the end of season 1 of Pakistan’s game of thrones. The second season would begin with the hearings of the Supreme Court. How these would progress and what decision they take would determine whether Pakistan remains an accepted democracy. Pakistan’s legal luminaries termed Imran’s final game as illegal.
