On 22 August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three new stretches of the Metro network — the 2.45 km Esplanade to Sealdah section of the Green Line, the 6.77 km Noapara to Jai Hind Airport section of the Yellow Line and the 4.4 km Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata section of the Orange Line. He will also flag off three Metro trains on these lines.
Emerging as one of the choicest modes of transport, the city’s lifeline Kolkata Metro Railway carried 13.30 per cent more passengers in 2024-2025 as compared to the financial year 2023-24.
The state transport department urged the private and minibus operators plying buses between Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector-V to provide additional services on eight days in February to ease out travelling woes of commuters.
The Metro authorities in a Press statement said the integrated ticket is sold from the counters only.
The Kolkata Metro Railway has decided to start commercial services in the newly-inaugurated three stretches, including Howrah Maidan to Esplanade, Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Joka to Majerhat from 15 March.
