The Congress president cited a letter written by Sardar Patel on February 4, 1948, where he expressed concern over the RSS's role in creating an atmosphere that led to Gandhi's assassination.

The attacks by the Congress came after BJP working President Amit Shah hailed Savarkar while addressing a seminar at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi.
As soon as the tweet went viral, the Opposition Congress and NCP demanded the suspension of Nidhi Choudhari. The tweet, posted on May 17, has been deleted.
“Sarkar se alag ho jana chahiye tha. Itni taqleef hai Pragya Thakur se to istifa de ke alag ho jana chahiye unko (He [Nitish Kumar] should have left the government. If he is really so badly hurt by Pragya Thakur’s comment then he should resign and walk out of the government),” said Rabri.
“BJP does not agree with this statement, we condemn it. Party will ask her for clarification. She should apologise publicly for this statement,” said Narasimha Rao of BJP.
