Addressing public meetings in Sitamarhi and Bettiah on Saturday, PM Modi said that the youth and women have supported the NDA, the “jungle raj” (lawlessness) has been dealt a blow, and the so-called “katta sarkar” (gun rule) has been rejected.
Voting for the first phase of the Assam panchayat elections will take place on Friday, May 2, marking the beginning of a high-stakes electoral battle, ahead of the crucial 2026 assembly elections in the state.
Notably, Jorhat saw the highest turnout, reaching 76.20% by 3 pm.
The polling is underway in 102 constituencies spread across 21 states and Union Territories.
