According to preliminary investigations, Gurpreet Singh is believed to have been in direct contact with operatives of the Pakistani spy agency and is suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information through pen drives.
Jyoti was in touch with the agents during the ongoing India-Pak conflict but had no direct access to any defence-related information, the police said.
The chargesheet was filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thiruvananthapuram on June 26.
The accused persons have been brought by the Crime Branch to its headquarters in Cuttack on a 7-day remand. The investigation has found a transfer of Rs 38,000 from Dubai. The amount was transferred to the account of one of the accused persons in two instalments, said Sanjeev Panda, Additional Director General of Police of the Crime Branch.
“These proceedings are a blatant attempt to use human beings as bargaining leverage,” the top American diplomat in China, David Meale, said in a statement
Nambi Narayanan welcomed the Supreme Court verdict but stressed there should be a time-frame for completion of the probe by the court-appointed panel.
