CPI-M spokesperson, Sujan Chakraborty, said that out of the state’s population of 9.5 crores about 20 per cent avails ration and questioned how CM said that ration will be delivered to the doorstep of 10 crore people?
“As there are 21 lakh ration dealers across the state, a total of 42 lakh staff would be engaged. Each such staff would be paid a salary of Rs 10,000 a month of which Rs 5,000 would be paid by the state government and the remaining 50 per cent by the respective ration dealer. This would cost an additional Rs 160 crore to our state exchequer,”
Instead, the aggrieved members have decided to maintain the Public Distribution System (PDS) from their respective outlets on the day when the CM Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the outreach mission.
