The top court clarified that the release directive is only for stray dogs that are not infected with rabies or exhibiting aggressive behaviour.
“If any person or organisation comes in way of picking up of stray dogs, action will be taken," a bench of justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said.
A stray dog chased and bit over 50 people in Kerala's Kannur town on Tuesday, causing injuries to many. Four of the injured have been admitted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.
The petitioner further said that the Forest Department officials, without realizing the situation of the cub, had forcibly taken it away and put it up at the Zoo in Chennai and prayed for its custody.
As per the police, the mother of the girl told that at around 6 pm the incident happened and she took her girl to the local doctor and got the treatment. The victim girl along with her mother were sent to the Hedgewar Hospital for the medico legal case (MLC).
A working committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary (Health) at the time was established in 2019 to address the threat in the state. However, the number of cases have continued to rise
