The Delhi government plans to combine transport reforms, ecological restoration and urban management measures such as road greening and misting systems to address the capital’s worsening air quality.
Launching a scathing attack on previous governments while addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said that whether it was the fifteen-year rule of the Congress or the eleven-year tenure of the AAP, their emphasis remained on publicity and poster-driven politics.
The inspection was carried out jointly by flying squads of the CAQM, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Delhi Cantonment Board, with the objective of verifying compliance with prevailing environmental norms and land-use regulations.
Under the new enforcement framework, open burning of garbage, leaves, plastic, rubber, or any form of waste will attract an on-the-spot penalty of ₹5,000.
She said that all the hotspots will be covered under the proposed plan to install the mist spraying systems, and later they will be installed across the entire city.
The decision is intended to prevent a sudden surge of vehicular traffic during peak hours, thereby distributing the flow of vehicles more evenly throughout the day and reducing emissions.
