Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday, marking the completion of her government’s first year in office, said her administration believes in delivering measurable outcomes visible on the ground rather than merely making promises or announcements.

Launching a scathing attack on previous governments while addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said that whether it was the fifteen-year rule of the Congress or the eleven-year tenure of the AAP, their emphasis remained on publicity and poster-driven politics.

In contrast, she said, her government is functioning on the principle of “less paperwork and more work.”

The Chief Minister stated that under earlier regimes, Delhi witnessed more noise and fewer solutions, as politics driven by allegations, delays and confrontation slowed administrative progress in the national capital.

She said the present government has adopted a timeline-based working model, placing accountability at the forefront of governance. As a result, Delhi is now witnessing concrete outcomes on the ground rather than politics driven by social media posts and advertisements.

Speaking on the issue of cleaning the Yamuna, Gupta said that for decades there were repeated announcements but little tangible improvement.

She alleged that during the fifteen years of Congress rule and eleven years of the AAP government, there was hardly any serious effort towards rejuvenating the river, leading to its deteriorating condition.

According to her, after assuming office last year, the present government initiated the upgradation of sewage treatment plants, tapping of drains, and implementation of new projects, resulting in concrete progress in pollution control.

She added that systematic planning, including a drainage master plan, revival of existing STPs, and construction of new ones, will contribute significantly to cleaning the river.

Addressing waste management, Gupta criticised previous governments for failing to increase processing capacity in line with daily waste generation, which resulted in the formation of landfill mountains.

She said the city’s biomining capacity has now been increased manifold, with a clear target of processing the entire quantity of waste generated each day on the same day.

On pollution control, the Chief Minister said that while earlier administrations relied on slogans and press conferences, the present government has prepared scientific short-term, mid-term and long-term roadmaps and begun implementing them.

She emphasised that solving pollution requires proper planning and effective implementation, not merely discussions.

Speaking about education, Gupta said previous governments focused more on publicity than structural reforms. She highlighted that her government implemented a Fee Regulation Act to curb arbitrary fee practices by private schools, providing relief to lakhs of parents.

She also spoke about administrative work culture, stating that confrontation earlier dominated governance, whereas her government has prioritised dialogue and coordination.

The Chief Minister said the government has strengthened systems by introducing digital mechanisms, financial discipline and institutional reforms, improving transparency and accountability.

Taking a swipe at former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, she alleged that while political gains were prioritised earlier, assistance to families of government employees and doctors who died during COVID-19 remained pending for years, and that her government has now resolved such cases.

Expressing confidence about the future, Rekha Gupta said that within one year her government has changed the direction of governance in Delhi, and in the coming years, the national capital will witness comprehensive transformation.
