Mohanlal, who has starred in over 400 films, received a standing ovation from the attendees at the Vigyan Bhawan as he accepted the award. Mohanlal's wife, Suchitra Mohanlal, was also present at the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering after receiving the award, an emotional Mohanlal dedicated the award to the entire Malayalam cinema fraternity. “This moment is not mine alone. It belongs to the entire Malayalam cinema fraternity. I see this award as a collective tribute to our industry’s legacy, creativity, and resilience,” he said.

He was also associated with the Government of India Film Enquiry Committee in 1949 and honoured with Padmabhushan in 1971 by the Government of India.
Information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar today announced the government’s decision to award the 70-year-old, popularly known as Thalaiva (meaning boss in Tamil). The jury members of the award comprised Asha Bhosle, Shankar Mahadevan, Mohanlal, Biswajeet, and Subhash Ghai.
