Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, VD Satheesan, on Friday alleged that Govindachami, the convict in the sensational Soumya rape and murder case, who escaped from the high-security block of Kannur Central Jail, received help from inside and outside the prison.
Acting Chief Justice B R Sarangi and Justice M S Raman, hearing petitions of improving living conditions of convicts and undertrial prisoners (UTPs), said this in an order on Friday.
The apex court has now posted the matter for directions on May 9 and said that case will be listed for hearing in July.
Bano has also moved a review petition against the apex court judgment allowing the Gujarat government to decide on the remission of the convicts.
The quantum of sentence in the matter will be pronounced on 12 October. Ranjit Singh was murdered in 2002 in the premises of Dera Sacha Sauda.
The high court had asked the Bar Council of Delhi to take action against Singh for filing a forged affidavit in the court and added that without applying his mind or deliberately, he had filed the documents to delay the process.
Her remarks came after Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to stay the execution of two of the four death row convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case while dismissing their curative petitions against their conviction and capital punishment.
The top court had, on July 9, 2018, dismissed the pleas filed by three of the four convicts, seeking a review of its verdict upholding the death penalty awarded to them.
