Earlier on Thursday, the deep depression intensified into a cyclone and has been christened ‘Dithwa’, as suggested by Yemen and it refers to the Detwah lagoon on Socotra island, known for its distinct coastal ecosystem.
It said southern, Cauvery delta and some Northern districts continued to receive heavy rains with several areas in the south of Tamil Nadu were inundated with some of the areas receiving heavy to very heavy rains.
Kolkata along with North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, West Midnapore and Jhargram are likely to experience gusty winds having speed reaching 30-40 kmph today
