In a bid to further revitalise the telecom industry, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) on Monday released the telecom industry’s recommendations for the upcoming Union Budget 2025-26 to the Ministry of Finance.

India must allocate more spectrum in mid-band like 6GHz for a seamless 5G mobile service in the country, else 5G download speed would be reduced to 50 per cent, when fully deployed, if less spectrum is allocated in the 6GHz band, the Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI) said on Monday.
After the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) slammed it for raising the 'revenue sharing' demand for telecom service providers (TSPs), the Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI) on Monday said the telcos' demand for reasonable 'usage charge' from OTT providers is fair and rational.
"Users are advised only to follow messages sent by their operator from their designated SMS IDs only. By staying aware and cautious, we can together fight this menace," COAI said.
This is for the first time MSTC has been selected for handling spectrum auction.
In some circles, telcos have seen up to 100 per cent hike in data demand in some of the circles after the lockdown.
COAI seeks reimbursement of credit due to telcos from the government through adjustments that can help companies meet AGR payment.
