In a post on X, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Modi Government today notified the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024.
CAA was passed by the Parliament in 2019 but the government is yet to notify its rules.
In their letter, the leaders stated, 'Citizens have the right to equality under Article 14 of the Indian Constitution. But the BJP-led Central Government is implementing the CAA on religious grounds.'
The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to put a stay on the Citizenship Amendment Act and granted four weeks' time to the Central government to file a reply on the petitions regarding the same.
