’18 lakh vulnerable pensioners left in the lurch’: Naveen slams Odisha govt for three-month delay in pension

Stepping up his attack on the BJP-led Odisha government, Leader of the Opposition and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik on Friday accused it of failing the state's most vulnerable citizens over the non-disbursal of social security pensions to nearly 18 lakh beneficiaries for the last three months, and urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to ensure immediate release of the pending payments.

Trivedi alleged that Jharkhand minister Irfan Ansari had openly stated that if any booth-level officer from the Election Commission came merely to collect information, “he should be taken hostage.” He questioned whether such statements did not put the Constitution at risk, adding that “wherever the INDIA alliance comes to power, the spirit of the Constitution is sidelined.”
