According to official information, ‘Gangstran Te Vaar,’ a decisive war to make Punjab a gangster-free state, was launched by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026.
This bypoll was seen as a crucial test for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP that had won five of the six bypolls held in the state since it came to power in March 2022.
Bikram Singh Majithia said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wanted to bring in an amendment to the Police Act through the backdoor without any wider discussion on the same in the Punjab Assembly.
AAP accused the Akali Dal chief of lying on the issue. It asserted that not even a drop of extra water will go to Rajasthan.
The AAP national convener said the Bhagwant Mann government handled the situation (arising from Amritpal episode) very well without firing a single bullet.
The party, however, assured that no legal action will be taken against any innocent person.
The Bhagwant Mann Government affirmed that it is prepared to take tough decisions if needed so that no antisocial element will be allowed to flourish in the state.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the state has witnessed revolution in health and education sector, revenue growth and war against antisocial elements under the Bhagwant Mann Government.
The SAD delegation also expressed shock at the CM's statement that he had a complete dossier on the corrupt activities of the previous Congress ministers.
The Budget Session of Punjab Assembly will be held from 3 March to 24 March.
