Ending years of speculation and political estrangement, former Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee and his close associate Baisakhi Banerjee formally returned to the Trinamul Congress (TMC) on Monday afternoon, marking a significant homecoming ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Talking about rumours that they might rejoin TMC, Baisakhi Banerjee said that she and Sovan Cjatterjee were still in BJP and would remain there.
It is learnt that Sovan Chatterjee along with Baisakhi Banerjee went to CM’s residence on the pretext of taking ‘Bhai Phonta’ from Mamata Banerjee.
They met Mr Vijayvargiya on 28 August at his residence in the city expressing their grievances against the BJP leadership.
