According to a senior official at the public health wing of Swasthya Bhaban, with the onset of winter since the end of October there has been a steady rise in influenza-like illness (ILI) and acute respiratory infection (ARI) in the city and districts.

Dr Sanjay Chakraborty, MSVP of NBMCH said, "In the paediatric department, within 24 hours, 27 children were admitted. Out of them, 10 patients were diagnosed with ARI. A total of 56 children have been admitted to the hospital."
