The diplomatic frost that had long defined India-Canada relations is finally beginning to thaw. What once seemed a near-irreparable breach, triggered by allegations surrounding the killing of a Sikh separatist leader on Canadian soil, is now giving way to a more pragmatic, forward-looking dialogue.
Anand had also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning before holding discussions with Jaishankar.
Jaishankar said India–Canada relations have been “steadily progressing” over the past two months, with both nations “working to restore and reinvigorate” key bilateral mechanisms.
Highlighting the growing cooperation between India and Canada, the Prime Minister noted, “Enhanced collaboration in trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people ties holds immense significance for both our countries.”
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on Thursday welcomed the appointment of a new High Commissioner to India, underlining that the move reflects Canada's gradual efforts to strengthen diplomatic engagement and deepen cooperation with New Delhi.
