Acorrespondent writes : My 8-yearold son comes back from school with the weirdest, often outrageous, questions. And, to my personal horror, he gets most curious when I battle to get him ready in the morning for school. ‘Ma, what is the meaning of “ser” and “sawa ser”?’My am-I-awake-yet brain rejoiced silently. The answer to this one I knew!

The old Hindi saying: ‘Tu ser toh main sawa ser.’ Almost poetic here-I felt. So I explained to him. It’s an old saying implying ‘I’ll always be one up on you!’ etc. As I finished with a satisfied smile on my face on having tackled this perfectly, my son said with a confused frown, ‘Oh! I thought the words had something to do with measurement!’
