The inner push to excel

Here are ways to build self-confidence amongst employees by breaking the barriers.

The inner push to excel

Confidence gives you the power to triumph over the world. Some employees come with more self-confidence and self-reliance than others, while some seek constant support from their manager, checking in more often than required for supervision. Self-confident people overcome their weaknesses straight on and are known to be risk takers.

These people tend to see their lives in a positive light, even when things are not going their way. Having low self- confidence and low self esteem could lead to a negative attitude within an employee. Here are five ways, how an employee can build self- confidence amongst themselves by breaking the barrier:

Performance appraisals: This is the best way to motivate employees to instill self- confidence within them. It improves the way they work for the development of the organisation.

It is also important to offer improvement opportunities, such as training seminars, mentorships or classes to those employees who desire to improve their performance.

Appreciation for good work: Lack of appreciation reduces confidence and morale, which in return leads to frustration and lack of self-confidence. This makes it extremely critical for the seniors to consistently appreciate their subordinates for the good work done by them.

Employees mostly seek a positive feedback and those who feel like they’re performing well, tend to be more confident. After, getting appreciation from their seniors for their good work, employees tend to work harder to achieve their goals.

Affirm yourself: These are normally more effective if said out aloud, so that one can hear the words themselves. This is a powerful tool, to deliberately instill preferred values about themselves.

One must be an optimist: It is tough to do so, but one must, seriously consider getting away from those individuals who put him/her down and deter his/her self-confidence. Even a temporary break from such people can make a huge difference to help stride more towards increasing his/her self-confidence.

Employees must put some positive enthusiasm into their interaction with others and hit the ground running. They must stop focusing on the problems in their life and instead begin to focus on solutions, creating an optimistic atmosphere.

Timely feedback is the key: Employees must keep getting timely feedbacks from their seniors so that they know where they stand in their organisation.

This motivates them to work harder to overcome their weakness. Appropriate and timely feedbacks are a great booster in an employee’s life. Appreciating criticism in a positive manner boosts their self-esteem.

Instilling self-confidence and maintaining optimism even at times when one feels completely saturated and overworked are the key parameters to success.
