Women cricketers team meets PM Modi: It was a day of smiles and stories when India’s women’s cricket team fresh from their historic World Cup victory met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi. The champions glowing with pride and laughter first visited the Prime Minister where a planned congratulatory meeting soon turned into a heartwarming exchange. Modi greeted the players with a wide smile and warm applause congratulating them for making the nation proud. “You’ve not just won a trophy,” he said, “you’ve won the hearts of 140 crore Indians.”

Coach Amol Muzumdar was the first to speak, reflecting on the years of hard work that shaped this victory. “Every practice, every failure, every match, it all led to this moment,” he said with emotion. “The journey wasn’t easy but it was worth it.”

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then took the mic, recalling the team’s earlier meeting with Modi in 2017.“That time, we came without the trophy,” she smiled. “This time, we brought it home. You have doubled our happiness, sir.” Modi laughed responding, “Cricket in India isn’t just a game. It’s part of our lives. When you win, the whole country smiles; when you lose, even the calmest people lose their cool.”

The Prime Minister also spoke about the pressures and trolling that women cricketers face online praising them for handling criticism with grace and strength.

Touch of fun

Smriti Mandhana, one of India’s most celebrated batters, shared how the team had transformed since 2017. “We’ve grown tougher,” she said. “We’ve learned from our heartbreaks. And in many ways, you’ve been our inspiration, sir. Your words always push us to give our best.”

Then came Jemimah Rodrigues, who played a crucial role in taking India to the finals. “This team,” she said, “has fallen many times, but every single time, we’ve picked ourselves up together. When one of us shines, everyone celebrates. When one struggles, someone else lifts them up.”

All-rounder Sneh Rana agreed, adding that unity and positivity were the secret ingredients of this win. “We never stopped smiling, even on tough days,” said Kranti Gaud.

That’s when Harleen Deol known for her bubbly personality stole the show. During the otherwise formal discussion, she suddenly turned the meeting into a light-hearted moment. Looking at the Prime Minister, she asked, “Sir, your skin is always glowing. Can you please tell me your skincare routine?”

The room burst into laughter. One teammate teased, “It must be the love of millions of Indians!”

Even Modi couldn’t help but laugh. He thanked Harleen for keeping the mood light and praised her for spreading joy wherever she goes. Coach Muzumdar jokingly joined in, “Sir, now you know why my hair has turned white. I have to handle these personalities every day!”

The king, the catch, and the tattoo

Amol Muzumdar also shared a delightful story from the team’s tour of England. “We had a chance to click pictures with King Charles,” he said. “But because of royal protocol, only 20 people could fit in one frame. The staff said, ‘No problem. We’ll skip this photo. We’ll wait for the real moment, when we win the World Cup and meet our own Prime Minister.’”

That line drew a loud round of applause. The conversation then turned spiritual when Deepti Sharma, one of India’s key all-rounders, revealed that she often listens to Modi’s speeches for motivation. “You handle things so calmly,” she said. “That helps me in my game, too.”

Modi smiled and asked her a curious question. “I’ve seen you’ve written ‘Jai Shri Ram’ on your Instagram and have a tattoo of Lord Hanuman. How does that help you?”

Deepti replied, “Sir, I have more faith in him than in myself. That gives me strength and courage to face anything.” Modi nodded appreciatively.

He also recalled a viral clip of Deepti taking a stunning catch during the World Cup. “I noticed you were smiling even before you caught the ball,” he said. “Why was that?”

Before Deepti could answer, young opener Shafali Verma laughed and admitted, “Sir, I was talking to myself, ‘aaja catch, aaja’. And when it came right into my hands, I just couldn’t stop laughing!” The entire room erupted once again.

A mother’s message

As the conversation came to a close, Arundhati Reddy stood up with a shy smile. “Sir, my mother wanted me to tell you something,” she said softly. “She says you are her hero. She’s called me five times since morning just to ask when I’m meeting you.”

Modi laughed warmly and replied, “Please tell your mother that her blessings are my strength.”

The meeting ended on an emotional note, with Modi reminding the team that their journey was not just about cricket but about breaking barriers and inspiring millions of young girls. “Every time you step on the field,” he said, “you carry the dreams of countless others who now believe that they can, too.”

The players left his residence with smiles, selfies, and stories to last a lifetime.

An afternoon with president Murmu

Later in the day, the team made their way to Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu welcomed them. The grand halls echoed with applause as the President congratulated the champions for their historic achievement.

“Your victory is a moment of national pride,” President Murmu said. “You’ve shown the world what determination and teamwork can achieve.”

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then presented the President with a special memento, a team jersey signed by every player. The President admired the gift and held the World Cup trophy in her hands as the cameras clicked away.
