Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hosted the Indian women’s cricket team players at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg and congratulated them for winning the Women’s World Cup 2025.
PM Modi praised their remarkable comeback in the tournament after three consecutive defeats and the social media trolling they had faced.

During the conversation, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur recalled meeting the PM in 2017 when they had met him without the trophy, and now that they have met him with the trophy, they wish to meet him more often.
The PM also mentioned the famous catch of Harleen in 2021 against England, about which he had posted on social media at that time, and the catch of Amanjot Kaur in the final.
Amanjot took the important catch of Laura Wolvaardt after several fumbles. It was that moment when India came back in the match as the South African skipper was playing a threatening knock after reaching 100.
In response, Amanjot Kaur said that this is one fumble that she likes to see.
PM Modi also invited Kranti Gaud’s brother for a meeting after she told the PM that he is a big fan of him.
The PM also urged the players to take forward the message of Fit India, especially for girls across the country.
He discussed the growing problem of obesity and highlighted the importance of being fit. “Go to your schools and motivate young minds there,” Modi told the Indian women’s team players.
Vice Captain Smriti Mandhana said PM had motivated them and has been an inspiration for all of them.
Player of the tournament Deepti Sharma said she had been waiting to meet the PM. She recalled their meeting in 2017, and when the PM had asked them to keep working hard, they would achieve their dream.
