Indian opener KL Rahul on Saturday won the hearts of millions of cricket fans across the world when he displayed true sportsman spirit on the third day of the fourth Test match as he did not claim a catch which appeared as a clean one to the naked eye.

The ball had actually bounced and touched the ground before Rahul grabbed it and hence he, in real cricketing spirit, refused to claim the catch.

On Saturday morning, Marcus Harris failed to strike the ball properly on the first ball of Ravindra Jadeja’s spell and the Karnataka cricketer produced a brilliant effort at mid-on to reach the ball.

However, even before the on-field umpire Ian Gould could consult the third umpire whether the catch was legal or not, Rahul himself told the umpire that he did not collect the ball cleanly.

The on-field umpire was so impressed with Rahul’s honesty that he clapped for the fielder and was heard calling his act ‘outstanding’.

Here is the video of the incident:

Earlier, on the third day of the fourth test match, Aussie opener Usman Khawaja departed early but Marcus Harris scored his personal best score of 77 as the hosts started the arduous task of chasing down India’s mammoth first-innings total of 622 runs (for the loss of seven wickets, declared).

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led Team India just need a draw to win their first-ever Test series Down Under in the last seven decades. Team India is already leading the ongoing four-match Test series 2-1 after their victories at Adelaide and Melbourne.
