A previously dominant Manchester City, now on the verge of exiting the UEFA Champions League, host fellow Premier League side Liverpool for the second leg of their quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium and the lineups for Tuesday’s gargantuan clash have been revealed by both sides.

Pep Guardiola looks to have gone for an all-out 4-3-3 formation, with Gabriel Jesus starting at the tip of the hosts’ attack, flanked by the likes of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.

David Silva, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne complete the three-man midfield while there’s a change at the back as defensive midfielder Fernandinho partners Nicolas Otamendi in central defence.

Kyle Walker and Aymeric Laporte are the preferred fullbacks for the night even as Ederson starts in goal while the likes of Sergio Aguero, Ilkay Gundogan and Vincent Kompany warm the bench.

Loris Karius retains his place between the sticks, behind a back-four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren and Andy Robertson.

James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum feature in midfield while Liverpool’s vaunted attack trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah complete their 4-3-3.

To say City were blown away in the first leg would not be an exaggeration for the Reds were 3-0 up with little half an hour played and truth be told, never truly looked in danger of conceding.

And after the Sky Blues capitulated in the Manchester Derby over the weekend, their confidence will be at the lowest ebb possible.

A three-goal margin is almost insurmountable and considering the offensive firepower Liverpool have at their disposal, makes their already-onerous task all the more improbable.

While a City win is likely, it remains to be seen if they can make it a memorable European night for the club by overturning the considerable deficit from the first leg.

Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva (C), Sane, Sterling, Bernardo, G Jesus.

Liverpool:

Karius, Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Milner (C), Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Firmino, Sane and Salah.

Match kicks off at 20.45 GMT/00.15 IST.
