It has been six long years since Manchester United has managed to win a Premier League trophy. For a club of the stature of Manchester United, six years is a long time. The Red Devils have changed five managers in these six years, however, no tactic or tactician seems to be working for them – such is the phase that Manchester United are going through. The Premier League giants finished at a lowly sixth place in the last season which means they won’t be able to feature in the Champions League either.

Amidst this scenario, a former Manchester United legend Geoff Hust has stated that he can see the Red Devils turn into a team like Liverpool who haven’t won a trophy in three decades.

He also added that he can sense Manchester United struggling again this season as players like Hary Maguire, Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will take some time to settle in and start performing for them.

“I can’t see them challenging for the title. They are buying new players and it takes time to gel,” said Hurst as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“Maguire is a seasoned Premier League player and an international, so he will fit in and he is a fantastic acquisition.

“The younger players have come from smaller clubs and maybe overawed by being at United. It may take some time,” he said.

Hurst then started comparing Manchester United to Liverpool and said that what happened with Liverpool can happen with bigger clubs like United too.

“It’s going to take some time for them to become a dominant force once again. Liverpool have gone 29 years since they won the title. It can happen even to gigantic clubs.

“The same thing could easily happen at Manchester United. They might not just bounce back on size.

“They have found Sir Alex Ferguson impossible to follow and a few very good managers have found that out.

“They will come back this season but they won’t be close enough to challenge the top two,” he concluded.

Manchester United will lock horns with Chelsea on August 11, 2019, in their Premier League season opener.
