Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has dedicated his weekly blog to stricken former manager Alex Ferguson, who is recovering from brain surgery, and the Spanish midfielder’s gesture has seen him win even more fans as a result.

“This blog’s entry is going to be particularly short, if you don’t mind,” Mata penned as he continued, “This Saturday, all of us were overwhelmed by the news about Sir Alex Ferguson’s health condition.”

The 76-year-old Ferguson suffered a brain haemorrhage on Saturday evening and was rushed to the hospital, where he was operated upon.

His last appearance was on April 28 when United hosted Arsenal for a Premier League clash, which the Red Devils won 2-1.

Ferguson, who had become a club ambassador and director after retiring, felicitated outgoing Gunners boss Arsene Wenger at Old Trafford, along with current United incumbent Jose Mourinho.

“This circumstance has had a huge impact on Manchester United, as you can imagine. All of us are united right now, wishing Sir Alex a speedy recovery. He has been a unique and fundamental figure in the football world over the last few decades.”

Social media has been inundated with get well soon messages for the former United boss, with the who’s who of world football wishing the Scot a speedy recovery.

Despite not having been managed by the legendary Scot, Mata clearly holds him in high regard as he expressed, “I’ve never been coached by him, unfortunately, yet I know well his incomparable legacy on this club, that winning mentality and fighting that we must honour in the last three games of the season, especially in the FA Cup final.”

United have had a difficult few seasons since the 76-year-old retired in 2013, having failed to win the Premier League since.

And this season has seen difficult too, despite the fact that United are on course to finish second. They are, however, in contention for silverware as they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 19.

“To achieve that, we are going to work hard while we eagerly await good news about Sir Alex’s recovery,” the diminutive midfielder added.
