West Indies’ skipper of the limited-overs side Kieron Pollard believes that the sudden suspension of all international cricket, in view of the coronavirus pandemic, has given them a good amount of time to “introspect” about their careers. Pollard also opined that players should use it to “stay mentally and physically fit”.

Notably, the dreaded virus has infected more than three lakh people globally and claimed over 13,000 lives. The threat posed by the spread of the virus has led to the cancellation and postponement of all sporting action across the world.

“It is a good time for introspection, a good time for reflection, a good time to look at where you are as an individual in your career and what you want to achieve going forward,” he was quoted as saying by Jamaica Gleaner via news agency PTI.

Pollard was ruled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this month due to an injury. He stated that the time off could also be utilised to work on fitness and prepare for the cricketing season ahead.

“You have to take this time in order to do that and also keep yourself in good physical shape, and mentally as well, because when the bell rings and they say ‘ok, everything is back to normal and we need to go on tour’, it might not be enough time to be prepared, but you as an individual have to be prepared mentally in order for you to try to perform at your best,” he said.

It is worth highlighting that the Cricket West Indies (CWI) had recently postponed the domestic season by a month, in view of the dreaded virus.
