Following his crucial knock of 93 runs in the first ODI against New Zealand, India batter Virat Kohli dethroned teammate Rohit Sharma to regain the No. 1 position in the latest ICC men’s ODI batting rankings. Rohit slipped to third place in the updated standings.

Kohli’s 93 off 91 balls played a key role in India’s successful chase of New Zealand’s 300-run target in Vadodara and also helped him close in on Sachin Tendulkar, moving him into second place on the all-time men’s international run-scoring list.

Apart from his international performances, Kohli has also made a strong impact in domestic cricket. He impressed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 131 in the opening match followed by 77 in the second, further highlighting his rich vein of form.
Kohli’s return to the top of the ODI batting charts marks his first time at No. 1 since July 2021. He initially reached the summit in October 2013, and this latest rise represents his 11th stint as the world’s top-ranked ODI batter.
In total, Kohli has now spent 825 days at the top of the ODI rankings, the 10th-longest duration overall and the longest by any Indian batter.
New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell moved up to the second position, with only one point behind Kohli. He reached his highest ranking of 784 points for the first time after scoring a powerful 84 off 71 in the first ODI. Devon Conway also moved up three spots to reach 29th position as he maintains his run-scoring at the top.
In the ODI bowlers ranking update, Mohammed Siraj ascended five spots to reach 15th place, tying with Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Pacer Kyle Jamieson moved up 27 spots after achieving his career-best bowling performance, taking four wickets against India. He shares the 69th position with Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh.
