English Premier League side Chelsea on Tuesday announced that star winger, Eden Hazard, successfully underwent ankle surgery and he will be back in training by September. 

The Belgian winger broke his ankle while on international duty, falling while in training on Sunday with Roberto Martinez’s Belgium and almost immediately went under the knife in a bid to get fit for the next season.

"Eden Hazard successfully underwent surgery today after sustaining a fracture to his right ankle while training with the Belgian national team. He is expected to return to training in approximately three months,” the club statement read.

Meanhwile, the winger tweeted a picture of himself with his ankle in a cast with the caption: “Everything went well with my ankle operation, now I start the road to recovery! I will be stronger. Thank you for your support!!”

The 2017-18 Premier League season will start on 12 August which means the Belgian will not be available for selection in their opening games. Chelsea have some big pre-season games in July, which the 26-year-old Hazard will miss. He will also be absent from their Community Shield clash against arch-rivals Arsenal, which is scheduled for August 6.
