After India’s poor exhibition with the bat in the first Test match of five-match series at Edgbaston, many cricket expert and fans have demanded Cheteshwar Pujara’s inclusion in playing XI in the second Test at Lord’s starting on Thursday.

In the series opener, other than skipper Virat Kohli, none of the Indian batsmen were able to leave their mark on England pace attack. And after India’s upper and middle order collapsed at Edgbaston, team’s lack of solidity have been a cause for concern. However, veteran Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag believes that tourists should not drop KL Rahul. As getting dropped from the team just after one bad match would dent his confidence.

“If KL Rahul played the first Test then I think he should play the second match too. He should get enough chances. Because if you drop a player after just one match, it will definitely hurt his confidence,” Sehwag was quoted as saying to India TV.

“I think a player should get at least one full series and then if he fails to perform, you can drop that particular player from the team and give chance to others,” Sehwag added.

The former Indian opener also said Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara, however, should be recalled to the side in place of Rahul if the latter fails to deliver in the third Test.

“Yes, earlier I did think that Pujara should play at Lord’s but now I feel that KL Rahul should get the chance since he played the first Test.”

“If he fails to perform in both the innings at Lord’s then I think it would be good to bring Pujara in for the third Test,” Sehwag insisted.
