Borussia Dortmund have said that it will be difficult for them to re-sign out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Mkhitaryan has fallen down the pecking order after some poor performances and has not started an English Premier League (EPL) match since the loss to Chelsea on November 5.

United had signed the Armenia captain for 27 million pounds ($36.13 million) in 2016.

“I know the economic details of his transfer to Man United like nobody else,” Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Bild, as quoted as saying by dailymail.com on Sunday.

“That’s why (his return) is only conceivable with a great deal of imagination.”

The 28-year-old has scored 13 goals in 59 matches for United. In the ongoing season, he has struggled more, scoring only two goals in 18 matches.

He scored 41 goals in 141 appearances for Dortmund in three seasons.

According to the Daily Mail, United will reportedly demand over 35 million pounds ($40 million) to sell the attacking midfielder.

Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in signing Mkhitaryan.
