“If you take one or two big cloves of garlic, peel them, soak them in water overnight, and eat them in the morning, it helps with cholesterol, heart problems, and joint pain,” he said. He further added that this simple habit can be particularly beneficial for people dealing with high blood pressure or hypertension.

Garlic has always been regarded in Ayurveda and folk medicine for its nutrient content. Certain compounds, such as allicin, are present in garlic, and studies have reported their anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties, and cholesterol-lowering effects.

Acharya Balkrishna made it clear that garlic “is nutritious in every aspect of the body”. He indicated that its benefits are far beyond just one organ or condition.

He also shared another home remedy using garlic oil for those suffering from pain or swelling. According to him, one can take about 50 grams of crushed garlic and cook it in 100 grams of oil preferably mustard or sesame oil until the garlic turns black. The mixture should then be cooled down and stored for future use. This oil when massaged on painful joints or swollen areas helps reduce discomfort and improves blood flow.

He said such remedies have been used in Indian households for generations. They are simple, inexpensive, and rooted in the belief that nature holds the cure for most ailments.

Several of these claims have also been supported by modern science. Studies indicate that regular intake of raw or lightly cooked garlic can lower LDL and even help maintaining blood pressure. Garlic also strengthens immunity and aids digestion.
