Amid mixed global cues, domestic equity markets started Wednesday&’s trading session on a flat note.
At 9.45 am, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 28 points higher at 28,252 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading eight points up at 8,714.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices surged around 0.6 per cent each.
On Tuesday, the Sensex had closed 71 points lower at 28,294 and the Nifty had closed 17 points down at 8,706.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Capital Goods index registered the biggest gain, up 0.8 per cent, while IT index became the top loser, down 0.4 per cent.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Gail (up 1.4 per cent), Axis Bank (up 1.2 per cent), Power Grid (up 1 per cent), L&T (up 1 per cent) and Tata Steel (up 0.9 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Reliance Industries (down 1 per cent), Wipro (down 0.7 per cent), Infosys (down 0.5 per cent), TCS (down 0.5 per cent) and Adani Ports (down 0.3 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading five paise higher at 66.45 against the US Dollar.
