The deceased identified as Maharam Sk - a TMC leader of Nikarihat Gram Panchayat was rushed to SSKM after he was shot from a close range.
Post the defeat the speculation of him going back to TMC was already making the rounds.
"Apparently it seems there were more than one murderer and they were known to Chaki. Initial investigation shows that the murder is closely related to the property and we are trying to find out whether there was any dispute regarding the property," a senior officer of the homicide squad said.
All forms of precautionary measures have been taken in view of prevailing threats from divisive and terrorist groups to destabilise peace and harmony during the festivities, the senior police officer said.
