With Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif present, PM Narendra Modi on Monday flagged “the open support of terrorism by some countries” at the 25th SCO Heads of State Council Summit in Tianjin, China.

During his speech at the SCO plenary session, Modi said that India has been bearing the brunt of terrorism for the last four decades.

“Recently, we witnessed its worst form in Pahalgam,” the PM said, adding that the “attack was an open challenge to every country and every individual who believes in humanity.”

“In such a situation, it is natural to ask whether the open support of terrorism by some countries can be acceptable to us. We must unanimously oppose terrorism in every form and manifestation — this is our duty towards humanity…,” the PM stated.

The Prime Minister also called on SCO members to shun double standards on terrorism, calling the menace a common challenge for all of humanity.

At least 26 people, mostly innocent Hindu tourists from across the country, were killed in the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

India squarely blamed Pakistan for the attack and launched Operation Sindoor to avenge the killings of civilians.

The military operation brought India and Pakistan to the verge of a full-blown war before a ceasefire agreement was reached between the two countries.

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s economic progress during his address, emphasising the country’s ongoing reforms and their role in driving growth and development.

Reaffirming his mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform, Modi invited SCO members to be a part of India’s growth journey.

“Today, India is moving ahead following the mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform… We have tried to turn every challenge into an opportunity… I invite all of you to be a part of India’s development journey,” he added.
