We won’t allow J&K to become BJP’s battlefield: Mehbooba

I am not talking of India of today but that which was built by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, said former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Slamming the BJP, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday promised to bring back what the Modi Government at the Centre snatched from Jammu on August 5, 2019.

Mehbooba was speaking at a largely attended day-long convention of the party’s youth wing in Srinagar. “India is not BJP. J&K acceded to India of Gandhi, Nehru, Abul Kalam Azad and we won’t allow the country to become BJP’s battlefield,” she asserted, amid cheers and sloganeering by party activists.

“Kashmir is connected to India through its Constitution. But by snatching J&K’s special status, the BJP has destroyed the Constitution. India doesn’t belong to the BJP and till the time you don’t resolve the Kashmir issue, nothing will improve no matter how many troops you deploy here,” she said.

Criticizing the BJP, Mehbooba alleged that the BJP was playing with the dignity of Kashmir.

“BJP should know that when other parts of India were burning with communal violence and Pakistani raiders tried to capture the Valley, Kashmiris in the Muslim majority Valley chased them away with batons and did not let them touch Hindus, Pandits and Sikhs who were in minority. But now you are not only sending here more than 70 ministers to mislead the people, but also putting in a large number of security forces,” said the PDP top leader.

She said: “I am not talking of India of today but that which was built by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. I am also talking of India which Gandhi’s great grandson Tushar Gandhi and Nehru’s great grandson Rahul Gandhi are these days searching in the lanes and by-lanes of the country.”

Mehbooba said that it was unfortunate that the BJP has thrown the democratic norms to winds and the government was misusing CBI, ED, NIA and other agencies to hound the opposition leaders, who do not toe the line of the BJP.

She observed that PDP was stepping ahead on the footprints of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and would take his mission to its logical end. PDP youth wing chief Wahid Parra, who was recently released from detention, also participated in the rally.
