The mystery surrounding the death of a Uttarakhand journalist has only deepened, with both the police and his family giving contrasting accounts of what led to his death. His body was recovered from a river on Sunday, 10 days after he went missing.
While the police claim Rajeev Pratap died in an accident, his wife Muskan has alleged foul play, stating that he was being threatened over a news report he uploaded on his YouTube channel about a local hospital.

According to the police, Pratap met with an accident and his car fell into a river in Uttarkashi. The car, a Maruti Alto, was pulled out of the river on September 19, but his body was likely swept away and recovered on Sunday, 10 days after he went missing, from the Joshiyara Barrage.
Rajeev Pratap, an IIMC alumnus, ran a YouTube news channel ‘Delhi Uttarakhand Live’. He went missing on September 16, after which his wife filed a missing person complaint.
As per the complaint, Pratap had left for Gangori-Bhatwari and had last spoken to Muskan around 11 pm.
According to media reports, he told his wife that he was feeling anxious and receiving death threats after his news report on a hospital and a school.
His wife stated that shortly after their last phone call, his phone got switched off. She also alleged he was abducted by someone.
In a statement shared on X, the IIMC Alumni Association said that Pratap’s family had suspected foul play after he went missing. It also said that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a thorough probe into his death.
“His Family had suspected foul play in the disappearance. The Chief Minister has ordered a thorough and impartial probe into his death. We expect police to come clean with transparency in this case,” the IIMC Alumni Association said.
