The Uttarakhand government has begun reconstruction of Jadung Village depopulated and vacated by the natives owing to the Sindo-India war in 1962. State’s largest tourism operating agency Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) has taken up infrastructural development of the border village under Central government’s Vibrant Village Scheme to transform it into a tourist destination and bring back 23 families to their native place.

Uttarakhand tourism secretary DS Garbyal informed that the Indo-China border village of Jadung, located in a Uttarkashi district would be redeveloped mainly for tourism activities that will also form the base for economical growth of the local public. Garbyal said that the state government has authorised GMVN to construct 23 houses in traditional hill architectural style to rehabilitate the families that had relocated elsewhere and are willing to return to their native places now. In the first phase, the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) has started construction of six houses at Jadung village situated in Nelang Valley area and is currently being manned mostly by ITBP.
