In a decisive move, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh has suspended several police personnel across multiple districts after a sting operation exposed policemen extorting money from truck drivers under the pretense of “fees” for allowing overloaded trucks to pass through.

To date, 11 police officers have been suspended, comprising one Inspector, five Sub-Inspectors, and five constables.

DGP Rajiv Krishna emphasized a strict “zero tolerance” policy toward corruption in an official communique released Wednesday evening, warning that stringent actions will be taken against all personnel found involved.

Following the viral sting video, Chitrakoot Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh also took immediate action by suspending one Sub-Inspector from Rajapur police station and constables from Bharatkoop, Rajapur, and Pahadi. Further departmental inquiries are underway against senior officials for negligence or complicity.

Circle Officers of Rajapur and Karwi Sadar have been entrusted with the investigation into the racket that allegedly involved coordinated extortion across the Banda, Chitrakoot, and Kaushambi districts.
