Uttar Pradesh has struck gold in the 26th National Youth Festival-2023 at Hubli-Dharwad in Karnataka, when the folk song team from the Mohaba district got the first place.

Apart from the gold medal, the team also received a cash prize of Rs 1.50 lakh.

According to State Additional Chief Secretary for Sports and Youth Welfare, Navneet Sehgal, the 80-member team from UP participated in the event was doing well.

He said that the participants from UP competed in total 2 genres of folk songs and folk dances, prescribed by the Centre.

A team of 9 artists from the Mahoba district participated in the National Youth Festival in folk songs and won the gold medal for the State.

He said that 6 women artists of Mahoba, who include Varsha Rackwar, Sanjana, Sneha Awasthi, Meenal Soni, Kirtika Anuragi, Ekta Singh Tomar, in the folk category, introduced the women empowerment, with the “Battle of Alha Gayan-Sirsagarh”.

The 3 male artists, Pawan Kumar (Cymbals and Manjeera), Radharaman (Dholak) and Jitendra (Harmonium) played the instruments. The guide of this team is Mahoba’s music expert Abodh Soni.

According to Sehgal, the male artists performed most of the Alha folk songs.

In order to introduce the cultural heritage of the whole of India and its growing economic participation in the world, for the first time this year, the Youth Welfare Department included women artistes among the members of Mangal Dals of the State.
