The ongoing investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death has taken a new turn after her father raised questions over the role of certain lawyers linked to the Legal Aid Defence Counsel scheme and sought an inquiry before the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Twisha Sharma’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, has filed a complaint with the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority and Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Chief Justice Vivek Rusia, seeking an examination of the conduct of some lawyers associated with the legal aid system and an official.

Complaint flags alleged conduct of legal aid lawyers

The complaint alleges that certain lawyers appointed under the legal aid framework, meant to assist economically disadvantaged individuals, appeared to be favouring the accused.

It states that these appointments were made during Giribala Singh’s tenure as District and Sessions Judge in Bhopal.

Sharma submitted a photograph along with the complaint showing Shreyas Saxena, an assistant advocate with the Legal Aid Defence Counsel scheme, allegedly dancing at Samarth Singh’s wedding.

The complaint further claims Saxena was present in court along with the accused’s private counsel during the anticipatory bail hearing on May 15.

The complainant has also named Reena Verma, Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, while questioning the involvement of legal aid lawyers when the accused already had private representation.

The complaint also seeks clarification about an unidentified individual seen at a beauty parlour and later at the wedding ceremony, raising questions about the person’s identity and role in the sequence of events.

Family seeks independent inquiry

Advocate Ankur Pandey, representing Twisha Sharma’s family in the court, said the complaint has been placed before the authorities.

“We have forwarded the complaint to the concerned authorities and are awaiting action on the matter,” Pandey said on Friday.

The complaint seeks an independent inquiry into the alleged role of legal aid lawyers, their possible links with the accused, and the legal representation during the anticipatory bail hearing.

CBI probe continues

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma is continuing.

The judicial remand of former District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh, is scheduled to end on June 16. The agency will present both before the court, which will decide whether to extend judicial custody or consider a request for police remand for further questioning.

The CBI had earlier informed the court that it would seek remand if required. However, no remand has been sought in the last ten days since June 2, when the two were lodged in Bhopal Central Jail.
