Former MLA Rakesh Kalia returns to Congress after a brief stint in BJP
He joined the BJP in 2022 after being denied a Congress ticket to contest the Assembly elections from Gagret in Himachal Pradesh.
At a time when the Congress is struggling hard to re-establish its feet, national spokesperson of the party Sanjay Jha courted a major controversy.
Sanjay Jha recently liked a tweet which termed the Indian security forces as “Indian occupation forces” which may imply that India illegally occupy the state of Kashmir.
The tweet, liked by Jha, was related to the incident in which an 18-year-old Adil Ahmad Yadoo lost his life after being crushed by a police vehicle.

The tweet was initially posted by Columnist CJ Werleman. Referring the Indian security forces as the Indian occupation forces, he wrote, “Kashmir: Indian Occupation Forces carry out a lethal hit and run on an 18 year old kid in Srinagar, mowing him down, and leaving him for dead.”
One of the Twitter users, Reyaz retweeted Werleman’s tweet with a comment which read, “Occupation is ugly! This brings shame to all organisations who claims to be champions of human rights.”
Sanjay Jha went on to like this tweet sparking major controversy.
On 5 May, protesters pelted stones at security forces engaged in the counter-militancy operation in Chattabal and adjoining areas, triggering clashes. Police dispersed the protesters by firing tear smoke shells and in unexpected turn of events, Adil Ahmad was mowed down by vehicle driven by a policeman.
He was rushed to the nearby SMHS hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Local residents have alleged that Yadoo was shot by security forces.
A police spokesman said an FIR has been lodged in Safa Kadal Police Station against the driver.
