Patna, 11 August: The Trinamul Congress top leadership gave a dressing down to the president of its students’ wing for the alleged extortion of huge sums of money from candidates seeking admission to university courses. In many cases, over Rs 1 lakh was squeezed from candidates.
TMC state president Subrata Bakshi, all-India general secretary Mukul Roy and other senior party leaders met yesterday to discuss the preparations for 27 August, being observed as Trinamul Congress Chhtra Parishad Divas, where party chief Miss Mamata Banerjee would address a rally.
However, TMCP state president Shanku Deb Panda denied that he was rebuked by senior leaders. He also said he would take severe steps if any district TMCP leaders are found guilty of extorting money from candidates. sns
