Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to transfer 98.2 acres of defence land to the state government for the Gandhi Sarovar Project at the confluence of rivers Musi and Esa in Hyderabad. The project, part of the Musi beautification, is considered a pet project of the chief minister.

Reddy called on the Union minister at his residence and briefed him about the Gandhi Sarovar Project under which the state government has proposed to construct the Gandhi Circle of Unity at the junction of two rivers. Since the project requires the defence land, the chief minister requested him to transfer 98.2 acres of land to the state government.

Reddy explained that the Gandhi Sarovar Project was being taken up as a symbol of national unity and to promote Gandhian ideals. He has already announced his plans to install the world’s tallest statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Ghat as part of this project.

Yesterday, the chief minister met Union Minister for National Highways and Road Transport Nitin Gadkari and urged him to sanction a 12-lane greenfield road network connecting the upcoming Bharat Future City to Bandaru Port via Amaravati. This road network will connect the capital cities of both Telugu states.

He also requested the Union minister to complete the Regional Ring Road (North) expeditiously and take up the RRR in the Southern part of the state as well.

The chief minister had also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman with a request to restructure the high-interest loans secured by the previous BRS government. He pointed out that the high-interest loans posed a huge burden on the current government.

He also wanted to set up a corporation for developing secondary education in the state, free from FRBM strictures, as his government was trying to overhaul the education system.
