Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the central government over the proposed UGC Bill.

He alleged that the government introduced the Bill to create divisions among Dalits, backward castes, tribals, and upper castes in society.

Addressing a press conference, the AAP MP said that if the government’s intentions were clear, two independent committees would have been formed in universities — one to investigate complaints of caste-based discrimination and ensure strict action, and the other to resolve disputes.

He claimed such concrete and transparent provisions could have prevented any kind of social conflict. Singh said that the proposed system lacks clear accountability and independent monitoring mechanisms.

Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP is pursuing a policy of “divide and rule” and that the UGC Bill was introduced as part of that strategy. He said that the government’s lack of clear communication on the issue after introducing the Bill raises questions about its intentions.

Sanjay Singh also commented on the upcoming elections and ticket distribution. He said that all political parties become active during elections, but who will receive tickets and what last-minute changes will be made are not decided until the last moment.

He appealed to party workers to maintain organisational discipline rather than getting overly excited about any potential announcements.

He said the public needs to understand the government’s policies and true intentions to protect democratic values and social harmony.
