Priyanka Gandhi likens Modi’s regime to British rule

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said the current situation in the country has become similar to British rule and expressed doubts about the future of democracy in India.

Addressing massive rallies in Valmiki Nagar and Chanpatia Assembly constituencies of Bihar, she also accused the NDA of “stealing votes” in order to gain power in the state.

“The NDA will destroy everything. It is unclear whether elections will even take place in the future. Why are you silent? Remove them from power,” she said.

Priyanka told the people of Bihar, “Your ancestors fought for freedom and gave you a Constitution. They empowered you to form a government. Today, that same right is being taken away from you. Narendra Modi’s rule is no less than the British Empire. His government has given only unemployment, inflation, and poverty. Form an INDIA Alliance government so that conditions can change.”

She alleged that the NDA was attempting to “steal votes” in Bihar to capture power, claiming that around 65 lakh names, including a large number of women, had been removed from the voters’ list through the SIR exercise. She alleged that this was done deliberately to influence the election results.

Referring to the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi’s “revelation of irregularities in the Haryana Assembly elections”, she said, “My brother Rahul today exposed ‘vote stealing’ in Haryana.”

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Priyanka said the PM seemed “more concerned about the absence of Rahul Gandhi’s photo from RJD leader and INDIA bloc CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav’s posters than about major issues such as crime, corruption, and youth education.”

She also alleged that Modi “does not even share the stage with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during his political rallies.”

Priyanka announced that if the INDIA bloc comes to power, the people of Bihar would get free medical treatment worth up to Rs25 lakh. She added, “We will try to provide at least one government job to every family and fill the lakhs of vacant posts in various departments.”

She further promised that the problem of exam paper leaks will be eliminated, and a Job Calendar will be introduced, fixing the dates for examinations, results, and appointments in advance.
