Sarnath poised for UNESCO World Heritage Recognition
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has accelerated preparations to have Sarnath, the world-renowned Buddhist site in Varanasi, inscribed on UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage List.
Later in the day, he is scheduled to unveil the 125-foot-tall “Statue of Valour,” a tribute to the esteemed Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, in Jorhat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on an elephant and jeep safari in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park during his inaugural visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site on Saturday.
His journey follows his arrival in Kaziranga on Friday night as part of a two-day tour of the state.

Later in the day, he is scheduled to unveil the 125-foot-tall “Statue of Valour,” a tribute to the esteemed Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, in Jorhat.

Following this, the prime minister will proceed to Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat district to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for various state and federal projects collectively worth over Rs 18,000 crore.
Moreover, he is anticipated to address a public gathering at the same venue.
